The present book aims at a detailed study of Macbeth, dealing with the theme of ambition and fear. It organizes its material in terms of characterization, themes, and structure. It starts with an introductory chapter discussing Shakespeare's life, his works, and his times. Since the play is set primarily in Scotland, a brief history of Scotland has also been provided along with an outline of the play. The complete text of the play has been provided in the second chapter, and its summary with critical analysis in the third chapter of the book. The next three chapters deal with characterization, themes, and structure of the play. The last chapter concludes the study of the play and recommends further readings.

The book provides a detailed analysis on acts and scenes. It also examines the techniques and literary devices used and provides selected reading materials which would provide the students with enough inspiration to pursue their study of drama independently.
