General note The book, Amitav Ghosh's Writings explores how his writings creatively endeavour to negotiate through the complex web of historical, political, economic and cultural issues and mdash; past and contemporary and mdash; and brings forward his deep insight into events as well as human behaviour. He like other great writers writes out of conviction. His work is driven by his commitment. He does not shy away from commenting on politics, wars, economy and otherworldly affairs. Through his craftsmanship emerge certain ideologies on subaltern issues that are not only interesting but also significantly worthy of academic studies. This book is a unique one on Amitav Ghosh, whose works have been widely appreciated in the literary circles and won him many awards. The Circle of Reason won the Prix Medici Etranger, one of the top literary awards of France. He got the Sahitya Akademi Award for The Shadow Lines and the Arthur C. Clarke Award for The Calcutta Chromosome. The Glass Palace won for him the Grand Prize for Fiction at the Frankfurt International e-Book Awards in 2001. He was also the winner of the 1999 Pushcart Prize and mdash; a leading literary award, for an essay published in The Kenyon Review. His Sea of Poppies was shortlisted for the 2008 Man Booker Prize. The book explores history and historicism in Ghosh's work and provides a kaleidoscopic view of the subaltern and a confluence of his ideology and craftsmanship. It will be useful for the students and teachers of English literature, particularly Indian English literature and researchers in these fields.
