500 ## - GENERAL NOTE | |
General note | In an excellent parody of Alexandre Dumas's 'The Three Musketeers' he meets up with Dewey Athos, Huey Aramis and Louie Porthos, his three nephews, to whom he introduces himself as 'The Great Donald Duck'!

They embark on the adventures as did the real (!) D'Artagnan, Athos, Aramis and Porthos but with a difference. Anachronisms abound, such as the sending of a telegram and the use of a steam engine to travel from France to England and back.

In the end Milady is defeated, Donald, sorry Ducktagnan, meets up with the Duke of Buckingham and delivers the ostrich feathers that he had put aside to the French Queen, who, out of gratitude, rewards Donald, sorry Ducktagnan, with the hand of her masked lady in waiting.

Donald, sorry Ducktagnan, is horrified when he sees her less than beautiful and the story ends, not a la Dumas, with the four of them, with their Red Indian servant, departing for America!

Great fun and plenty of laugh out loud along the way. Oh, almost forgot to mention there is a super historical introduction with quotes from the original work.

NB I bought the book for a young friend of mind but couldn't resist being taken back to reading comic books, especially one based on Dumas, so here it is! |
