Profiles ninety-six American girls through their candid feelings and thoughts about the world in which they live and the things that interest them, enhanced with black-and-white photos throughout.
This nicely designed book, produced in collaboration with the Girl Scouts of the USA, introduces 60 young women who talk about their lives, accomplishments, and aspirations. Jones has done a good job of preserving each speaker's individuality: Olivia, 12, sounds her age, as do some of the older girls, a few of whom are in college. The format is very appealing, with lots of white space and colour photos showing each girl, and there's a good deal of ethnic diversity evident in both the pictures and the text. It's disappointing that not all the girls are identified by name and age, but the sincerity of the voices and timeliness of the concerns will be out here. These girls want to make a difference in the world--for themselves and for others.
