The twenty-first century has witnessed an explosive growth of Indian English literature. New tendencies in existing genres have made the field of creative and prose writing more dynamic. These need to be assessed to familiarise both the present day reader and the researcher with the entire landscape of Indian English writing in the twenty-first century. Indian English Literature 2001-2015: A Critical Survey analyses various genres - poetry, fiction, drama and non-fiction prose. Popular fiction is an increasingly important feature of recent Indian Writing in English, and one chapter is devoted to examining new trends in fiction: "chick lit", science fiction, detective stories, thrillers dealing with politics, espionage and terrorism, and novels presenting new perspectives on Indian mythology. Creative writing in recent years has focussed in new ways on the world of children and young adults. There is a separate chapter on literature for children and young adults, and a bibliography of secondary sources. This book fulfils the long-felt need for a sequel to Indian English Literature 1980- 2000: A Critical Survey by M.K. Naik and Shyamala A. Narayan, recognised as a definitive work in the field.
