Basic inorganic chemistry is a complete text book that builds on the foundations of inorganic chemistry and then moves to the important principles of periodicity in structure, bonding, and reactivity. It introduces the reader to the study of the synthesis and behavior of inorganic and organometallic compounds. This Indian adaptation of the book offers new and updated content while retaining the conceptual strength of the original. Two new chapter have been added to the book to make the coverage complete as per Indian curriculum requirement –Metallic Bond and Weaker forces of Bonding and extraction of metals. Reorganization and addition of new topics in chapters aim to align the book better with the syllabus flow. Some new topic included are Dipole Moments and Molecular Polarity, Geometries of Crystal Lattices, Effective Atomic Number Concept, Solvent Levelling, and Differentiating Effects, Structure, and Nature of Hydrides, Sulfur-Nitrogen Compounds, Metal ions in Biological Systems and more. Other useful inclusions are new Study Questions and Multiple Choice Questions (based on various competitive examinations) at the end of each chapter and updates in Appendix ll.
