Later Vintage Books acquired the publishing rights for the popular books. About the Author: EL James is the pen name of Erika Mitchell, who was born in 1963 in London. After having studied history at University of Kent, she took up a job as a studio manager assistant with National Film and Television School, Beaconsfield, before turning to writing in January 2009. Success of the Fifty Shades trilogy has turned James into a celebrity writer, who has even figured on the Times list of The Worlds 100 Most Influential People in 2012.
